KEEPING UP WITH THE TIMES AND LISTENING TO THE MARKET.

When Mosey and I took over Tris4Health in late 2019, MiTi was already the largest independent ultra-distance triathlon in the country, with around 90 finishers. The independent ultra race scene was shrinking, with many events declining even before COVID.
Having both completed branded 140.6s, we aimed to bring that excitement to independent racing, grow the ultra distance, and offer a lower-priced alternative to branded events. Our “Titan” designation, huge medals, and affordable pricing helped boost ultra finishers to a peak of 126 finishers in 2022. Participants loved the race and encouraged others to join.
Unfortunately, those others never came. While our shorter distances are thriving, this year we had just 64 ultra triathlon finishers, half of whom we had just three years ago. The independent ultra landscape is bleak. There are not many of us left. Even the 2025 ultra-distance national championship, at another event, had just 25 finishers.
The trends are clear: more athletes choose shorter distances, and experienced long-distance triathletes are leaving the sport. This is happening nationally. Additionally, those wanting to race 140.6 are doing so at branded events. There is simply no appetite for independent ultras. With rising costs and high staffing and volunteer needs, we must adapt. Unless things change dramatically, 2026 will likely be the final year for the ultra at Michigan Titanium.
But we aren’t going out with a whimper. We’re pulling out all the stops for our “TITAN Finale” in 2026. If you’ve ever wanted to take on this challenge at MiTi or cross the ultra off your bucket list, now is the time. Make your plans, secure your spot, and rally friends and fellow athletes—help us blow the roof off this final ultra. Register and spread the word. Tell EVERYONE.

Your race is our #1 focus.

Our goal is for you to have a top-notch experience. That informs every decision we make.

You are not a number.

More often than not, we know our athletes, their stories and why they are racing with us.

You are supported.

We attract more than 300+ volunteers each year. That's the size of most local triathlons.

Your wallet will thank you.

At some events, entry fees, travel and multi-day hotel stays can be $3,000+. Early bird at MiTi is $549 and you can come the day before.

We think we do a top-notch job, but don’t take our word for it.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK: join our athlete’s forum and talk with past participants. If they don’t convince you, nothing we say will.

“By far the best organized event I have participated in. From registration to the finish line, a first class experience.”
