Course FAQ

Where can I find a map of the race course?

Swim/Bike/Run course maps are available in the map section of the web site.

Are bike racks in transition pre-assigned or first come, first serve?

Bike racks will be assigned by Bib Number.

Do I need to drop off my my bike the day before the Race?

Yes there will be a bike drop-off on Saturday August 22nd.  While this bike drop off is not mandatory, it is highly recommended.  Bikes will not be allowed on the shuttles on race day.

Will there be security in the transition area?

Yes, security personnel will be posted at all entrances into transition. No spectators will be allowed into transition and all athletes race and bike numbers will be checked ensure security of equipment.

Is the swim a mass start or a wave start?

The Full Iron-Distance will be a mass start and the Half Distances will be wave starts.

Are we starting in the water or is it a beach start?

The race is a water start.

What is the expected water temperature on race day?

Versluis Lake is a deep, spring-fed body of water. The water temperature is typically in the mid to upper 70’s in late August.

What are the wetsuit restrictions?
  • All wetsuits must be 5mm or less in thickness
  • Wetsuits are permitted if the water temperature is up to (and including) 78 degrees Fahrenheit or colder.
  • Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 83.9 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures between 78.1 degrees Fahrenheit and 84 degrees Fahrenheit will not be eligible for awards.
If the water is wetsuit legal where can we rent wetsuits?

You can rent a wetsuit for $30.00 (on average) at these locations: Striders & Gazelle Sports. We recommend you renting the wetsuit at least one week before the race, so you are able to give it a test drive, and get used to the feel swimming in it.

What nutrition will be available on course?

There will be aid stations along the bike course offering:

  • Gatorade Bottles
  • Water Bottles

  • Ice

What are the courses cut off times?
  • Swim: 2 hours and 30 minutes after the Full Distance start.
  • Bike Turnaround: 1:30pm
  • Bike Course: 5:30 pm
  • Run Turnaround: 10:30pm
  • Run: Midnight

*These are the cut off times for both Full and Half Distances.

What are the entry fees?

Please note that these prices do not include Registration or Service Fees.  Price increases will take effect on the indicated dates at 11:59 PM EST.

What is the deadline for registration?

We encourage you to register for the race by August 2nd, 2015.  If registered by 8/2/2015 we will guarantee the following

  • The Shirt Size indicated on your registration will be available for you at Packet-Pickup
  • You will receive a personalized Race Bib with your Name
  • Your name with the current race will be included in the commemorative Athlete Guide

The deadline for registration or changing events is at Packet Pick-up on August 22nd.

Will onsite registration be available?

If the event is not sold-out online, we will take onsite registrations during Packet Pick-up hours.

What is the maximum number of registrations?

For 2015 we are capping the number of athletes at 800.

What are the age requirements?

All athletes must be 18 years of age by December 31, 2015.  Any athlete who is not 18 will need Race Director approval to participate.  Please email doug@tris4health.com for more information.

What constitutes a Relay Team?

Relays can consist of a 2 or 3 person teams.  Teams can be all male, all female, or co-ed.

USAT Memberships vs. Day Pass:

USAT Day Passes are available and included in the price of your registration.  A USAT Day Pass costs $12 and will be included at the time of registration.

Changing Events:

Tris4Health will allow you to change events up until Packet Pick-up.  There are will be no refunds give if transferring to a shorter distance race.  If you transfer to a longer distance or relay, you will be required to pay the difference between what you paid for your registration and the current price of the event you are transferring.  Please email Lori@tris4health.com if you wish to change events.

Withdraw/Refund Policy:

Withdrawal requests must be received in writing 30days prior to the event via E-mail to Lori@tris4health.com. If for any reason, you need to withdraw from a race you have already registered, you can request in writing a 50% discount off an equal distance or shorter race by Tris4Health in 2016. In order to be eligible for the Deferral Discount, these requests must be received 30days prior to the event.  For example, if you are currently registered for the half distance triathlon, you will receive a unique discount code to register for a 2015 race.  That discount code would give you a 50% discount off the half distance or shorter race.  No transfers to another athlete will be allowed. There will be no refunds under any circumstances. This policy will be strictly adhered to for fairness to all.

Athlete Packet Pick-up will take place on Aug 22, 2015 from 12pm – 4pm at:

What age group will I race in on race day?

All qualifying events will implement the USAT Age Group Competition rule: All age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31st of the year of the event.

Can family members and/or friends check-in for me and pick-up my race packet?

No, only registered athletes are allowed to pick-up their packet. Please bring your photo ID and USAT card (if applicable) during designated hours.

Can I change my relay entry to an individual entry?

You will be able to change your relay entry to an individual.  You will NOT receive the difference in entry fee. Requests must be received in writing via e-mail to Lori@tris4health.com.

What if my team members can’t compete due to unforeseen circumstances and I am the only one on my team?

If only one athlete remains on the team due to injury or other circumstances, that athlete can participate as an individual entry.  The individual will not receive the difference in entry fee.

Do all team members have to be at athlete check-in at the same time?

No, however, all members of a relay team must check-in or they will not be able to participate.

Will all team members receive a shirt and medal?

Yes, each athlete that participates in a relay will receive a shirt and medal.

Are there Cash Prizes for the races?

There are cash prizes for the Full and Half Distance Triathlons.  For more information see the Prizes Section of the website.  There are no cash prizes for the Aquabike, Duathlon or Relay events.

Do I need to be a professional to be eligible for cash prizes?

No

Can the MiTitanium qualify me to race Kona?

The Ironman® World Championships in Kona are exclusively owned by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).  The MiTitanium is not affiliated with the WTC and does not offer qualification for any WTC event including Kona.

Transition & Special Needs Bags FAQ

Who will have access to the Transition & Special Needs Bags?

This service and bags will only be available to the Full Iron-Distance Athletes, including the Full Distance Relays, Full Aquabikes and the Full Duathlon.

Will there be Changing Tents available?

Yes we will have separate Male and Female changing tents available in transition for the Full Distance Athletes.

When do I turn in my Transition Bags?

You must turn in all bags prior to 6:30am on race morning.

What bags will I receive?

Each Full Distance Athlete will be provided with five bags at Packet Pick-up for race day:

  • Dry Clothes Bag
  • Swim to Bike Transition
  • Bike to Run Transition
  • Special Needs Bike
  • Special Needs Run
Do Full Distance Athletes need to use Transition Bags?

Yes, loose gear will be not allowed in the transition area on the ground next to the bikes of the Full Distance Athletes. You will be provided a bag for all of your transition needs. Transition Bag check-in is located in transition right outside of the changing tents. You will be required to hang your transition bags at the pre-assigned location which will be identified by your bib number. You must have your bags placed by 6:30am on race morning.

Where do I drop off my Special Needs Bags?

Bike and Run Special Needs bags will need to be dropped off Sunday morning at the designated drop off location. This area will be clearly marked and located just inside transition. MiTi Staff will transport these bags to the special needs stations which will be located near the midpoint of the bike and the halfway point on the run.

Will I get my Special Needs Bags Back?

We will make an effort to return these bags to you; however we are not responsible for items not returned. DO NOT place anything of value in your special needs bag. Special Needs bags can be retrieved on Sunday until midnight. The Bike Special Needs bags will be brought back to transition for pickup by 5:30pm.  The Run Special Needs bags can be picked up at the First Aid Station until Midnight.  If bags are not picked up by Midnight of Race Day, the bags will be discarded.  We will be responsible for bags left at the race site and all items will be discarded.

What should I pack in my Bags?

For Your Swim to Bike Bag:

  • Bike Shoes
  • Bike Helmet- must be cpcs certified
  • Bike Socks
  • Bike Sun Glasses
  • Bike Clothing (if not wearing it on the swim)
  • Bike Nutrition (it is best to bring the nutrition you plan to use on the bike with you in the morning instead of placing it on your bike the night prior to the race because of potential weather issues.)

For Your Bike to Run Bags:

  • Run Shoes
  • Run hat or visor
  • Socks
  • Race Belt with Bib number already attached.
  • Clean Glasses if you prefer
  • Change of Clothes
  • Reflective Gear if you anticipate needing it
  • Nutrition

Bike Special Needs Bag:

  • Extra Sun Block
  • Body Glide or Chaffing Ointment
  • Extra Nutrition in case you drop something
  • Extra tire or tube

Run Special Needs Bag:

  • Extra socks incase of rain
  • Long Sleeve shirt if you think you are going to be running after dark.
  • Think back to your training, if you ever stopped at a gas station during a long run. What did you need  (Extra water? Salty snack? Sweet snack?)

General FAQ

Will I be allowed to cross the finish line with my athlete?

The MiTi is a family friendly event. We not only allow, but encourage athletes to celebrate this amazing accomplishment with their families by crossing the finish line together.  The MiTi will provide a special finishers award to all junior athletes who cross the finish line with their parent.

When will the results be posted?

Results will be posted on our website, under the tab ‘Results’, within 24 hours end of race

Will there be online tracking of the racers?

Yes, we will have an Online Tracking link that will show the times when each athlete crosses a mat entering or leaving transition.

Where will Lost and Found be located during the event?

Lost and Found items will be available at the Volunteer/Information Tent during race day. It is recommended that you mark your gear with your name.  The MiTitanium or Tris4Health are not responsible for lost items. After the conclusion of the event, please contact gvidro@hotmail.com to locate any missing items and schedule returns. Shipping fees will apply.  All unclaimed items will be donated within 30 days.

What is the host hotel and how do I find other lodging information?

Hotel accommodations and information is available in the lodging section of the website.

Who is the bike transport provider?

Bike shipping accommodations is provided by our official Bike Sponsor, West Michigan Bike & Fitness.  Please contact their Kentwood location for details on shipping, assembly and transfer of bikes.

What if I leave something behind at the race?

Lost and found will be located at the volunteer tent during race day. This does not include items left in special needs bags, all bags not claimed by midnight of Race Day will be discarded.  After race day you can contact Gail Vidro at: gvidro@hotmail.com or call 616.334.6107.
